SWIFT is the process the Commonwealth Bank uses to send money overseas (similar to BPay used for domestic payments) and a BIC is the code that the SWIFT system uses to identify banks worldwide.
Once a firm has submitted this data, the regulator will map the FRN to the BIC and the firm must ensure that the TMU is aware of the BIC on an ongoing basis. The latest edition is ISO 9362:2009 (dated 2009-10-01). Other Codes
Other codes that you may see are BSB, Sort Code, ABA Routing Number, Clearing Code or National Clearing Code.
This is with a view to ensuring entity data is consistent across the MiFID compliant landscape and the regulator is able to identify each firm correctly.
If you're asked to provide a clearing code for your payment into BNZ, please use: NZ02nnnn - where nnnn is your four digit branch number (see domestic account number formats below).
